As my fellow cohort, Gianni posted about not long ago HERE, SOPA will be brought up to the house this month. Instead of shutting down this website, I urge you to go HERE to do your part as a citizen and let the government know that you are not just one, but many. There is no need to be inactive, be as active as possible, and show you want your right to privacy intact.
For those of you that know me, I’ve been digging on Lana Del Rey for quite some time now. There really isn’t much, if anything, to dislike. Her voice is refreshing and sultry, her content is all very original and far from what you will hear on the radio today. She’s also as beautiful as her voice. Overall, probably the dopest female artist out at the moment (sorry Adele fans).
For those of you that are fans, you will be happy to know that a release date has been announced via her Twitter page. The album is slated to drop January 30th. I haven’t bought an album in a very long time so it’s going to be nice to go purchase something new.
As if that news wasn’t good enough, Lana also dropped a new single today. Also via her Twitter page. This has been a great listen. As soon as it starts it’s reminiscent of a Dilla production. Fans of the late producer will obviously know why.
Feel free to check out her website and if you aren’t really familiar with her work, check out her YouTube page as well as pick up the EP on iTunes.
Common will return to the music game with his ninth album The Dreamer/ The Believer on December 20.
His first release in three years (also his Warner Bros. debut) is produced by No I.D.
Common is encouraging fans to support by watching the “Sweet” video premiere on UStream, for one dollar. The proceeds of the UStream event will benefit the J/P Haitian Relief Organization, which was founded by Sean Penn.
This may not necessarily be directly related to anything with musical or artistic value but in the grand scheme of things, it affects those two things that we here at RetinaDrum hold near and dear to us. Our government is trying to move forward with internet censorship. With such an act, sites like this one or many of the sites you enjoy daily will be shut down or completely washed of most of it’s content. This type of thing will of course be hidden behind the premise of protecting one’s property but really be another catalyst to further control what it is we do on the internet and a helping hand for big brother.
This video is quite informative and discusses one particular bill called Project-IP. If you enjoy your current internet experience and do not want most of the sites that you visit, as well as enjoy, make sure you are not quiet about this matter.
Mac Miller’s debut album “Blue Side Park” hits #1. He is the first indie rap artist to hit number one on the Billboard charts since Dogg Pound’s “Dogg Food” over 15 years ago.
